La red social más popular del mundo no ha podido impedir que el bloguero búlgaro Bogomil Shopov publique sus conversaciones con Facebook a raíz de destapar una oferta de venta masiva de datos: por cinco dólares pudo comprar más de un millón de datos personales de usuarios.
La compañía le pidió que no hiciera públicos los datos porque iba a entorpecer una investigación interna, y le pidió que destruyese los datos recogidos después de enviárselos.

Shopov, activista defensor de los derechos digitales, ha manifestado que a pesar de que va a colaborar con la compañía para su investigación interna (de hecho, asegura que ha destruido los datos comprados), no va a borrar sus posts en los que explica la existencia de ese mercado, ni piensa dejar de hablar de dicha investigación.
En declaraciones a ReadWrite, el bloguero búlgaro asegura que Facebook contactó con él después de contar en un post que había comprado la lista de datos y que incluía cuentas de correo de usuarios activos de Facebook, sobre todo de EEUU, Canadá y Europa. La oferta se puede ver aún gracias a la caché de Google.
A raíz de este asunto, la compañía abrió una investigación interna.
En una declaración por escrito, el portavoz de Facebook, Chris Kraeuter, afirma que la compañía "tomará medidas agresivas a raiz de este tipo de informes". "Continuamos investigando esta éste en particular", concluye.
Shopov afirma que verificó algunas de las cuentas de correo para comprobar si pertenecían a usuarios activos. Facebook le pidió de forma bastante "imperativa" que no notificara a dichas personas lo que estaba pasando, a pesar de que, según afirma, "fue su primer impulso".

Por otro lado, la Comisión Europea (CE) se mostró el pasado jueves dispuesta a introducir cambios para hacer más flexible su propuesta legislativa para regular la protección de los datos personales en internet, como piden los Estados miembros, dijo la responsable comunitaria de Justicia, Viviane Reding.
Las propuestas se enmarcan en el objetivo de actualizar la ley europea de protección de datos, una legislación que data de 1995, antes de la popularización de la Red.
La nueva normativa planteada por Bruselas, que necesitará el visto bueno de los gobiernos de los veintisiete países comunitarios y del pleno de la Eurocámara, facilitará a los ciudadanos, por ejemplo, poder borrar la información que aparece de ellos en buscadores como Google o en redes sociales como Facebook.
